FERNANDO SMITH DIES TODAY FOLLOWING STROKE
Fernando W. Smith, 91, route 2 Elwood, died at 8:45 o'clock this morning at Mercy hospital of complications following a stroke four days ago. Born June 29, 1863 in Hamilton county, he was the son of Jesse and Rachel Harvey Smith. He married Cyrena McWilliams on November 17, 1887. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Aroma Methodist church and a charter member of Farm Bureau. He had lived on the same farm for 67 years.
Survivors include: the widow; a son, Howard; a daughter, Vivien Foust, both living near Elwood; a brother, Henry Smith; a sister, Rosa Etchison of near Elwood; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The body will be taken Tuesday to the family home from Copher and Fesler funeral home, where friends may call. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. Elwood Call Leader, Monday, 4 October 1954.
