Joseph Awkerman / Aukerman Military Service

Joseph Awkerman/Aukerman
enlisted in Company I. 102nd Ohio Infantry on 9 August 1862 at age of 22.  He was mustered out on 30 June 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.  The 102nd Ohio Infantry served primarily as Railroad Guards along the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad in Tennessee and Alabama. 
 
He was a resident of Congress Twp, Wayne County, Ohio at the time of enlistment.  His description was Grey Eyes, Black Hair, Dark Skin, height:  6' 1/2" .  He moved to Wells County, Indiana after the War.  His parents Joseph and Mary (Rosenbaugh) Awkerman are buried in the Warner Cemetery in Congress Twp, Wayne Co, Ohio.

Burial in the Elm Grove Cemetery.
