The passing of the late Margaret (Peg) Murphy

The death took place at Baltinglass Hospital of Margaret (Peg) Murphy, late Moneyteigue, Aughrim, after a long illness, aged 87 years. She was widow of the late John/Jack Murphy, who predeceased her by 12 years. She was a member of the well known Birthistle family, until she married into the Murphys where she farmed with her husband Jack. Peg was a good hard worker, she spent every Sunday doing her religious duty in St. Kevin's Church, Ballycoogue, she had great devotion to her religious life. She kept up devotion in looking after her husband and children, she was a great neighbour and friend. She was noted for her homemade bread, people admired her gifts of baking in those far off days she was shopping by means of pony and cart, sometimes donkey and cart. These were before the motor cars, you felt at home in Moneyteigue Home, alas her kind is no more.

In the last number of years Peg wasn't in good health, before she went to Baltinglass Hospital she was resident in her daughters house, the last few years she has been a patient in Baltinglass Hospital, she was held in high esteem by all who knew her from far and near, as was evidenced when her remains were removed to St. Kevin's Church, Ballycoogue, and after Funeral Mass her remains were interred in Ballycoogue Cemetery. Fr. Paireac McCarthy, CC Avoca, officiated both days.

She is survived by sons Billy, Frank, Jimmy and Johnny; daughters Lily and Pattie, sister Frances Kennedy, grandchildren, extended relatives and friends. RIP.
