On Thursday, January 6th 1791, the Freeman's Journal (p.3) reported that last Saturday morning inhabitants of Carlow experienced the greatest hurricane remembered by the oldest inhabitants. Houses in the vicinity were unroofed, chimnies blown down and trees torn up by the roots, but we hear of no personal injury received by the inhabitants'.
