Thursday, January 6th 1791, the Freeman's Journal (p.3) reported
that last Saturday morning inhabitants of Carlow experienced the
greatest hurricane remembered by the oldest inhabitants. Houses
in the vicinity were unroofed, chimnies blown down and trees
torn up by the roots, but we hear of no personal injury received
by the inhabitants'.
