1798 Treason

Committed by William Browne Esquire and Beauchamp Bagnell Esquire;
 
That John Curran of Carlow town and Patrick Rice of Carlow town being wicked disposed persons on the 14th February in the 38th year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God King did at Carlow wickedly and unlawfully propose to urge and endeavour to persuade and induce one Denis Magall a private Soldier in his Majesties 9th Regiment of Dragoons to join himself to associate with and become one of a certain Traitorous and Wicked Evil disposed and Seditious party and society of persons stiling themselves United Irishmen by administering an unlawful Oath of Solemn Engagement upon a Book and to utter words that is to say Damnation to the King (meaning our said Lord the King) and Council (meaning the Privy Council of our said Lord the King) to the Great Scandal and Evil Example and against the peace of our said Lord the King for the purpose of Joining and Assisting the French Enemies of the King in Case they should Land in Ireland against the Duty of his Allegiance to the Forces of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God King.
