Tithes "the parish of Castlerahan which abuts the East side of Kilbride. As near as I can tell the landlord for all of theses was a Mrs. Moore. James Tully is in Carninn, Philip & Bryan Tulley in Cormeen, I noted a Giddy? Nugent in Clankeefey, and a Patt Tully in Mullaghmore. I ran out of time on page 58 and suspect there may be 20 or so more pages." Research interest of Tony waja@erols.com

Oct. 19, 1861 "Patrick BEGGAN, of Crossreagh, was summoned by the police for having been found partially undressed, and in a fighting position, on the public road. He stated that he only acted in self-defence, as he had been followed and assaulted by another man. The case was postponed for a week, to give him an opportunity of summoning his assailant." CAVAN OBSERVER - OCTOBER 19, 1861

Oct. 26, 1861 "Patrick BEGGAN was charged with having been partially undressed, and in a fighting position, on the public road near Ballyhaise on the evening of Sunday, the 6th instant. The defence made by BEGGAN was that, having been followed and struck by a man named HEUSTON, he stripped for the purpose of fighting without endangering his garments. The case was postponed on the previous Court day in order to give him an opportunity of summoning his assailant--a privilege which he availed himself of. It appeared that BEGGAN, HEUSTON, and some others were drinking in Ballyhaise, when the conversation turned upon personal prowess--BEGGAN proclaiming himself to be the best boxer in the room, and HEUSTON denying his claim to that title. The discussion was continued on their route when to terminate it, HEUSTON gave BEGGAN a "trip". This brought the matter to a crisis. Seconds were appointed, the combatants stripped, and the fight was about to commence, when the police were heard approaching, and all took to their heels except BEGGAN, who was captured in a state of semi-nudity. As there was nothing premeditated in the transaction--they being both young men of good character, and previously friendly with each other--the Court dismissed the case against BEGGAN, fined HEUSTON 6d. and costs, and cautioned them against whiskey-drinking and quarrelling." 1864" I have been trying to find a record of my grandmother's birth. Family lore has it that she immigrated to America from Ireland in 1881, and that she came from Castlerahan, Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan. Her parents were John McEnroe and Mary King, and her name was Catherine McEnroe. She was born on February 14, 1864, approximately one month after official birth registrations started. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Jean McCauley Bennett Jmb5050@aol.com
