1816 "Hello! I am hoping to find my long lost great-great-great grandfather. His son's name: Michael Conaty. Born about 1816 in Drung Parish; County Cavan (died 6 Feb 1913 and buried in Providence, RI United States). He left Ireland alone? by ship, sometime between 1832 -- 1858 and arrived in the New World (USA). Settled in Lexington Kentucky by 1858 and fathered a son there in 1858 (named him John Michael Conaty). The woman / wife/ mother of his child was: Bridget McEntee born 1826 (died 8 January 1888). Unknown where he entered this country nor which port. Rumor has it that he may have entered through Prince Edward Ireland, Canada. The National Archives ship passenger lists could not locate him on any of the eastern ports: PA, New Orleans, Boston, NY, Baltimore between 1848-1874 HIS PARENTS ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE STAYED BACK IN DRUNG PARISH, IRELAND AND DIED THERE. His father's name was Michael Conaty and his mother, Ellen Conaty (both over in Ireland). His brothers and sisters are unknown, if there were any. I am willing to pay $38.00 for this information: where they are buried, who his father was and names of any other children (siblings of the man at the top of this page). Thank you. Sincerely, Teresa Conaty Tiernan 401-231-9957 Trayz101@aol.com

I am researching the family of George Wilcox and Hannah Ireton. In one reference, I have found that their daughter Martha Wilcox was born 12 Feb 1820 in Drung, County Cavan. She is listed as baptised at Drumnilly (or Drumwilly-spelling a bit unclear), and then also married in the same place 29 Oct 1840. There were also children Elizabeth, Eleanor (b 1825), Grace (b 1832) and possibly Thomas (b ca 1820s). I am looking for any and all information about this family. RE McLaughlin remcl@ntl.sympatico.ca

1832 "The name Garvey is reported in the Index of Griffith's Valuation (published in 1852 but the work done in late 1840's) as follows;
Civil parish of Annah, 4 citations
Drung, 1 citation
Larah, 1 citation
Kildallan, 1 citation
The name McGarvey is reported as follows in the civil parishes of:
Drung, 1 citation
Urney, 1 citation (Urney is mostly the town of Cavan)
Tom Regan 2 citations
total of 11 possibilities to be your relations in the entire County of Cavan
So the work began and in no particular order except this is the guy I would work on if you go further.
The Valuation of Parish of Drung
Townland of Killyrue
Ordinance Survey map #16 (I will mail to you)
#1 Patrick McGarvey, his house office and land valued as;
AREA = 13 acres, 3 rods and 31 perches valued at 9 pounds, 10 shillings (about average size in the townland)
BUILDINGS = valued at 10 shillings (a hut or 1 room stone house, way below average)
TOTAL VALUATION = 10 pounds
His neighbors;
#2 James Fay, #3 Rose McConnell, #4 living together Thomas Fay and Patrick Fay, #5 Philip Reilly, #6 Patrick Reilly, #7 John Fay, #8 living together, Hugh McAtee and Michael McAtee, #9 Robert Flack. That is the entire townland, they don't get much smaller considering the average in Cavan has 200 families. But these guys have large acreage, very unusual. This is exactly the kind of townland the Lessors in the late 40's and 50's tried to clear to sub-lease to others for more $$$.
His Lessor is The Lord Bishop of Kilmore. Don't forget that for that is where to look for the rent books and estate records to see if there was assisted migration or just foreclosures!
Now I followed up on all the other names as well and have the same info as above which I will mail to you but this Pat fellow is the only McGarvey in all of Cavan that also had a family listed in the 1832 Tithes Applotment Books.
What that means is; #1 he, James, may be the elder of all the others listed, #2 he may be the first to have come to Cavan from their ancesteral homelands. You see there are NO McGarveys listed in all of Cavan in the 1796 Spinning Wheel entitlement program.
Anyhow in Nov. 1 of 1832 was published The Tithes Applotment Books. More on them later but James McGarvey is there with 11 acres and his neighbors are #1 Philip Reilly, #2 Patt Reilly, #3 ? Fay, #4 James Fay, #5 Jas McGarvey, #6 Patt Connon, #7 Hugh McEntee, #8 Jno Fay and #9 Peter D. Brackley. And the entire townland is crossed out! Now what that means is anyone's guess. I have never seen it before". Research interest of Frank Beggan beggan8448@fams1.compufort.com

Hello, from Chicago,
Just recently learned one of my wife's families were from Drung Parish, Co Cavan. James Nathan, I guess immigrated during the Famine, his family immigrated in 1851 and came here to Chicago. His wife was Catherine Brady which is usually only a Cavan name. If you have come across any info on this family I would appreciate it. James was mentioned in the series of books on missing relatives queries published in the Boston Pilot.
I collect info on the Chicago Irish and have a databases with over 15,000 names. If you had any folks come this way I would be glad to exchange information.
Thanks, Happy hunting

1864 "Smith, Edward Native of the Parish of Drung, Co. Cavan Ire. d 19 Jun 1864" St Joseph's Bloomfield Cemetery: Many of the people of Bloomfield, Illinois were from the Cavan area. Almost all of the people it seems followed a priest from Cavan a father McGirr. Many more but there stones are not marked. I will list some of the information on the Grave yard at what is left of old Bloomfield. Also a few that were buried in Quincy. If you see a name you are wondering about here is the Home page for the Great River Genealogical Society. It is very much alive and there home page can tell you who to contact to search for any questions you might have. http://www.outfitters.com/~grgs/ Contributed by John D. Daugherty Ardmire@worldnet.att.net
My grandfather was Francis [J], son of Patrick McCabe and Rose Clerkin. Born about 1869, probably around Drung Cavan. Left Ireland around 1880s, went to Albany, married his Irish sweetheart, who had also emigrated from Cavan. He died in 1935 and is buried in Albany. Descendants of his brother Patrick are still there but there are no McCabes in Drung now. Dolores mailto:DoloresBurton@msn.com
