Census and Census Substitutes

Census~ Censuses were taken in 1821, 1831, 1841 and 1851 but few survived and those that did were mostly from Ulster. The 1901 census is the first complete census available for Ireland. The 1901 and 1911 are available to the public, but all censuses taken after 1911 are not. These censuses are divided by County, Electoral division and townland.

Griffith's Valuation (aka The Ireland Householders Index)~ The publication of Sir Richard Grifftith's primary valuation of Ireland covers 1840 to 1864. This record lists all property holders and largely takes the place of missing census records. The Valuation office holds the Griffith's Primary Valuation records: Valuation Office, 6 Ely Place, Dublin 2, Ireland
