Am looking for information on James
LANIGAN, my great great grandfather
who was born in Ireland in 1814 and came to Canada during the Famine.
He may have been born in Kilkenny. The Canadian census only says that
he was born in Ireland. His trade was "tailor." He died in 1879 in
Hastings County, Ontario in the town of Stirling at the age of 65. His
wife, Elizabeth
McIninch, came on a ship from Bushmills, Co.Antrim but I
believe they met in Canada. I'd appreciate it if anyone knows of a
James Lanigan born at that time in Kilkenny. Thanks.

My great grandparents were Timothy
KENNEDY and Julia
DUGGAN from
Kilkenny. Timothy's parents were Martin Kennedy and Annie Murphy.
Julia's father was Patrick Duggan. They came to the US by the early
1850's, not sure if they were married in Ireland or here. They had
six children including my grandfather William. Timothy worked on
the railroad and they settled in the Mt. Holly Vermont area after
initially living in the Ludlow, Bellows Falls area. Naturalization
records are from Woodstock Vermont. Any clues or ideas would be
most appreciated. Many redheads in the Kennedy family.

DE MONTMORENCY came from Mount Eland near Ballyragget in mid
1800's and settled in Norwich Township , Ontario , Canada. When we
visited the old farm at Mount Eland in May of this year , the gentleman
who now runs/owns the farm could remember the names William & George
DeMontmorency but had no idea where they went. My searches of database
surnames has turned up no DeMontmorencies in Ireland. Do you know how I
could find out if there are any descendants still living in Ireland and
where they might be? Any help would be appreciated.

GRANT family in co Kilkenny
I would be interested to hear from anyone researching the
GRANT family
in Kilkenny. The GRANT's are all descended from a Norman knight who
landed there in 1169. There were three GRANT families in IVERK BARONY in
southern Kilkenny, until Cromwell confiscated their land in 1660. Some
fled to France, some to Tipperary, but most remained in Co Kilkenny.
Even today most GRANTs in the Irish phone book are in the Iverk area.

COSTELLO(E) and his wife Margaret returned to
Ireland from the USA between 1910 and 1913. James had a sister, Julia, who
married Michael
BARRETT (from Kilkenny). Julia and Michael are my great
grandparents. I know that James & Julia's parents were both named COSTELLO(E)
but can't find the names right now so will add. Michael BARRETT's parents
were Patrick BARRETT and Margaret
FITZGERALD. All were from Ballymahon? or as
someone wrote here, Ballymountain?? Both Michael BARRETT and James
COSTELLO(E) were in California (1860 census) before their wives. I do not
have any data on where they married. If anyone knows of COSTELLO(E)s or
BARRETTs etc. would be most appreciative of information. There were also some
BARRETT relatives who went to Chicago but have not tried to trace that avenue
yet. Also, the name
CARROLL appears but do not know the connection yet.
Thanks for taking the time to read and possibly answer my query.
