Seeking family information on the O'NEILL's of Newtown Parish, Kilkenny, IRE. Catholic priest, Rev. Patrick O'NEILL, died in the 1860's in Charleston, South Carolina, USA with this location on his tombstone. He buried a "brother", Walter O'NEILL, there in Charleston in the 1850's. I don't know whether this is a blood-brother or a religious brother. Additionally, there is a Thomas O'NEILL who married a Mollie REID, another Catholic Irish immigrant, in the US. Thomas may have worked with the railroad and may have also had ties with the Catholic church. His children, James Joseph (b. 1845) and Mary Ann/Mollie (b. 1849, NY) were orphaned in Charleston. For these reasons, I believe him to be related to the above Patrick and Walter. Any information or clues would be appreciated!!

I have a poorly documented family history saying that we are descended from James BUTLER (born 1610, s/o Thomas BUTLER of Kilkenny Castle) & Elizabeth PRESTON, by way of his daughter Anne, who married Thomas DALLEN. Much has been written about this James, but I can find no mention of a daughter Anne. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers, Pat Greenwell in Alberta, Canada

My gggrandparents, Patrick and Catherine BRITT, were both born in Kilkenny, Ireland according to the 1881 Census of Durham County, England where they lived from at least 1861 until at least 1881. Patrick was born about 1831 and Catherine (surname unknown) was born about 1835. At least five of their children were born in England; however, Michael and Mary may have been born in Ireland. Later much of the family migrated to the United States. I am looking for any information on the above family. Thank you. -- Mary Ann Gallo

William Thomas KEENAN, a well educated man who trained for the priesthood but was in some sort of uprising and either was deported or left in a hurry to come Australia. He was a journalist here and hated the English with a passion. He was fluent in Irish, Latin and Hebrew. Any info on the uprising and the family would be great.
