the process of tracing my mother in laws ancestry and i came across your website
and thought i would put finger to keyboard with the hope of some guidance to
obtain in the short term Birth and Baptismal certifcates as a starting point and
in the long term a family tree.
My wifes mother who is still living in Plmouth England originated from Thomastown
County Kilkenny Ireland having left there in 1938.
Her mother Kate Dalton was still living but died in Ireland after the war having
little contact with her gaughter who's name is Mary Bennett nee Dalton born in
Thomastown in 1918.
Her father James Dalton who she cannot recall with any clear memory died soon
after she was born at a young age (she thinks forty)and mother married on the 3rd
of February 1909 at the Roman Catholic Chapel at Freshford for which she as a
copy of the Marriage Certificate.
Unfortunately the certificate does not give them a exact birthdates having the
word fullage as a age which i take as being able to mary without parents consent.
She would like to obtain a birth certificate and or a Baptism certificate for
both parents.
Although i realise you cannot supply certification we thought that you may point
us in the right direction to enable us to contact the proper authorities with
regards to furthering our progress.
We wondered if there was a local genealogy groupwho may be able to help.of course
any fee involved would be honoured if details of payment could be sent.
My mother in law is aware of several names mainly Dalton who she remembers as a
young girl and she thinks there offspring is still in the
Ballycallan,Kilree.Freshford and Kilmanagh of Kilkenny.
Many thanks for your time and patients

Patrick Brennan who was supposed to have been born in Brickana, Gowran, Co.
Kilkenny circa 1790. He emigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada circa 1820. He married
Eleanor Patton (Ellen) who was from Ballymoney,Co. Antirm, in Halifax, NS in St.
Peter's RC church (now called St. Mary's Basilica)on May 1, 1823. Patrick died
in NS in 1862. His parents were John and Mary (Byrne) Brennan who lived and died
in Ireland, I believe. Patrick and Ellen had six children in NS who were Mary
Ellen, b. 1825, Elizabeth Jane b.1827, John b. 1828, Daniel Patrick (my great
grandfather)b. 1831, Samuel James b. 1832 and Annie b.1834/5.
Ellen Patton Brennan's parents were Samuel Patton and Mary Twaddle, both of
Ireland.
Any information on this Brennan family in Ireland would be appreciated. I am
looking for the siblings of Patrick Brennan and info on his parents, John and
Mary (Byrne)Brennan in the Bricana (Brickana), Gowran area or the Flagmount area.
In 1999, when if Ireland, I did find some Brennan's buried in the old St. Mary's
church yard and in the remains of the church in the town of Gowran but have no
idea if they are connected or not. I plan to visit there again in May'05 and
would appreciate any info anyone can provide about this family. Thanks,

Query: Hello, I
am attempting to begin family research on my grandmother, Mary F. Doherty. We
don't have a lot of information but if any of this sounds familiar please contact
me! Mary had two brothers, John and Fred who came from Kilkenny and settled in
the Hamilton, Ontario, Canada region around 1900. They had a younger sister named
Sarah who died at any earlier age and a unnamed brother who died from a gun
wound. Their father was the hounds/grounds keeper on a large country estate. Mary
loved to sing in the church choir, was a speed walker and often worked as a
waitress or house keeper. Mary came to Canada after her brothers around 1905(?)
and then settled in the USA in the 1920s. I look forward to any little piece of
information that you might have. I am not an expert genealogist but have been
rather successful in other searches up till now. Thank you in advance and if you
