Surnames: DALTON, CONEY/COONEY/COYNE
Query: UPDATED INFO: On John's arrest record in there was possible family references to a Patrick, Mary & Sally/Sarah - 3 siblings I would think. [John Dalton son of James Dalton and Mary (nee Coney/Coyne) was born between 1827 and 1829 in Kilkenny (and could possibly have come from Inistioge, between New Ross and Thomastown) but we think he was born about 1843 as that was his age stated on his marriage certificate. He was a farmer. He was supposed to have been imprisoned awaiting execution when he was helped to escape and fled to Australia. He married Catherine Mary Markey in Hobart, Tasmania on 8 July 1866. They had three children there; James Alfred, Alice Cecilia and Letitia. They then immigrated to New Zealand c1874 and finally settled in Taranaki, New Zealand. They had six more children; Rose, John, Henry Patrick, Estasia Katherine, Florence May, Francis and Bryan Fenton. I am looking for any family connections, info or origin in Ireland - the family christian names above may help] Many thanks!

Her parents were THOMAS and ALICE- (likewise I can find no record suggesting that the name is spelt incorrectly)who were farmers. She married Henry SINN in MELBOURNE Victoria Australia in 1858. Sarah would have been born about 1822 +/-. The only record of her employment is 'servant'at the time of marriage. This could have been a normal employee as opposed to a domestic servant.

Query: I have a second name, Peter Daly. James did some writing and I have a passage called, "A Dream" Last night I draemed I was in County Wicklow by the lovely sea side, I imagined I traveled to Dublin, then south to the town of Killbride. I fancied that I saw the vale of Avoca, where the waters do meet, I then crossed the county to Glanaily, to me far more sweet. My next visit was to the Seven Churches, Where I oft had been before,I enjoyed myself once more on Glandelough's gloomy shore. From that to Pooloofooca, Logalow, and back to the Devil's Glen. There I knocked at the gate, but they would not allow me in. I then visited Dunran Mountain, and the famed glen of the Downs, It was there I saw Sir John Ripton, hunting his fine pack of hounds. My last visit was to Delgany and then the Dargle, the sweetest of them all, I awoke, greatly alarmed, by the noise of the grand waterfall. I hope that this might in some way help in my search. James Daly may have been a policeman in Dublin. Thank you in advance for your help.

Query: I was told that my Great Great Grandmother was Anastasia DOOLEY. According to 1881 Census she was born in Kilkenny around 1847. I have obtained from Kilkenny Archaeological Society at Rothe House, records of a christening of an Anastasia DOOLEY in 1850 in Catholic Parish of St John's, Kilkenny. She married an English soldier Henry Armitt and by 1867 they were living in Isle of Wight, when she gave birth to her first child, Mary Ann ARMITT. I have obtained birth certificates for several of her later children and in all these the mother's maiden name is given as DOWLING. Are DOOLEY and DOWLING variations of the same name? I have been unable to trace her marriage certificate to Henry Armitt and when she left Ireland or where they met. Nor have I been able to trace the birth certificate for my Great Grandmother, Lucy Ellen ARMITT, her second child, who was born in Aldershot, England. I would be very grateful for any information on Anastasia or the DOWLING/DOOLEY families.

Query: The above, John Archdekin Tallent, is my great grandfather, born Kilkenny c1827, married Mary MULLALLy in 1855, Ireland Mary was born in Callan, Kilkenny 1831. They had 2 children in Ireland, Johanna c1856 and Thomas 1857 and then they emigrated to Victoria, Australia and had a further 10 children. As I have searched for years for my ancestors I would love to know more about them. They arrived in Aust. in 1857, ship unknown, and he was employed as a Compositor for the Age newspaper. His occupation in Ireland was apparently the same.
The name ARCHDEKIN as a 2nd forename intrigues and puzzles me as I assume it may have been a family name at some time but have been unable to solve that mystery either. Someone once told me that Archdekin became Cody, is that correct? Hoping you may be able to shed some light on this for me, I thank you very much for your efforts.

Subject: EDWARD THOMAS BUTLER & THOMAS EDWARD BUTLER
Query: Looking for infomation on Edward Thomas Butler - born 1844. English census records show he was born in London, but there is not trace of him at the Family Records Office. His father was Thomas Edward Butler born in Ireland. Possible that Edward Thomas was also born in Ireland and taken to London as a baby, not realising his Irish birth. Family legend states that Thomas Edward was one of the sons of the Butlers of Kilkenny, but when his father remarried, he did not get on with his step mother and left home to go to England. Some years later someone came looking for him because his elder brothers had died, but Thomas was away at sea, and his wife knew nothing of the connection with aristocracy, and so sent the man away. When Thomas retuned he confirmed that he was the man they were looking for, but made no effort to establish connection with his family. The legend may well be fanciful, but I would still like to trace our Irish roots if I can. Any information on how to go about this would be appreciated. Please head any e-mails "Butler" - I get so much junk mail that I tend to delete anything I don't recognise.

Surnames: FEEHAN, MORGAN, DOWNS
Query: We are seeking the origin in Ireland of Terrence FEEHAN, my great grandfather. He came to the U.S. from Ireland in about 1849, give or take a few years. His first stop was in Yates County, N.Y. where Terrence FEEHAN was listed as being a sponsor, along with Alice MORGAN, at the baptism of Patrick MORGAN, son of Bryan MORGAN and Elizabeth FEEHAN, on 23 May 1852 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Penn Yan, Yates County, N.Y. The parents of Patrick MORGAN were listed as Joseph MORGAN and Elizabeth FEEHAN.
Two and one-half years later, Terrence FEEHAN married Alice MORGAN on 31 Dec. 1854 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid, Seneca County, NY, which is the county adjacent to Yates County. The witnesses at their marriage were John HANLON and Esther FEEHAN.
By 1855-1856, Terrence and Alice (MORGAN) FEEHAN were residing in Minnesota, where their daughter, Mary Ellen FEEHAN, was born in 1856. Other FEEHANs listed in the church records of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Ovid, Seneca County, NY, between 1850 and 1878 were Agnes FEEHAN, Anastasia Rosa Mary FEEHAN, an adult Patrick FEEHAN, James (mis-spelled FEEGAN)FEEHAN, Ellen FEEHAN, John FEEHAN, Margaret FEEHAN, Anna FEEHAN, Martin FEEHAN, Mary FEEHAN, another Terrence FEEHAN who died at the age of 21 on 29 November 1903, Esther FEEHAN, and Elizabeth (FEGGANE) FEEHAN.
There were TONERs living in Ovid. Bryan MORGAN married Brigit TONER on 04 November 1855. FLAHIVE, DOWDLE, COUGHLIN, DOWNS, CARROLL and McGEE are other surnames found as spouses to MORGANs and FEEHANs in Seneca and Yates Counties, N.Y. If any of these people were also YOUR ancestors, please contact me! John DOWNS, who settled in this locality, was probably the brother of my great grandfather, Michael Downs.

Subject: JUDGE family or man moving to NEWFOUNDLAND
Surnames: JUDGE, Corbin
Query: I have compiled 61 pages on my JUDGE FAMILIES of NEWFOUNDLAND. What I need now is just one man or family named JUDGE who moved to Newfoundland before 1837. I have a couple of records for 1837,a marriage and a baptism, two different Judges in Placentia Bay. The name JUDGE is so rare in Nfld. that if you know anyone named Judge who moved there at that time, it's about 98% likely you just found my ancestor. Common first names were Peter,Joseph, Patrick,William, Jeremiah ,Margaret,Mary,Ellen,Hannah,Honora,Elizabeth . Very common were names like Peter Joseph,Joseph Peter,William Patrick,Patrick William,Joseph Patrick, etc. I do NOT know what part of Ireland they came from,so Kilkenny is worth a try. I live in Australia so have to do everything by internet.Hope someone can give me even a clue. Thanks.Ward.

Subject: Mary Furlong,b1806,1813 or 1820
Query: My Great Great Grandmother lived in Templescoby 3 miles out of the town of Enniscorthy. Her father was Thomas and her mother Mary Furlong nee Murphy and she was related but have not established exactly how to Matt Furlong who died holding the flag of Truce carrying a message from the United Irish to General Johnson of the british forces. Her uncle was said to have been Edward Fitzgerald she was said to have been the grand daughter of the first Earl of Leinster. I have done a lot of searching. The most important of my first questions is how did her parents fit into the family tree. Secondly how was it possible for her Uncle to have been Lord Edward Fitzgerald of New Park not Newbawn. Now one thing of interest that I have established is that a Mary Anne Furlong married a Thomas Dunphy and it is believed that they lived at Newbawn. Edward Fitzgerald namesake of Lord Edward Fitzgerald lived at Newbawn. They were both involved in the 1798 Uprising. they knew each other if not were related (highly likely) --------------------------------------------------
