Interesting exchange on the Buckstown query. Does anyone recognize WAUBEEK as a place-name?
My Great-grandfather Samuel Jacob Jackson named his house, built in 1882 in Manitoba, WAUBEEK PLACE. His parents had emigrated to Canada from Kilkenny when he was a child, and I've always wondered if "Waubeek Place" referred to somewhere - a town perhaps - in the country of his birth.
Fixing a place would help me trace his line.

I'm trying to locate information on my gggrandfather John Dwyer. My records indicate that he was born in Kilkenny on 29 June 1828. I believe that he was born in Kiljames Parish in Thomastown, but I'm not absolutely sure. I know that he move to America during the late 1840's to early 1850's because he was married in Northampton, Massachusetts on 17 April 1853 to Mary O'Neill. What I'm trying to determine is if he in fact was born in Thomastown and if so what year did he leave Ireland. If anyone has information on John Dwyer or any suggestions please let me know. Thank you, Steve Bibler

My forbear William Delahunty arrived in Australia some time before 1857 when he married Jane Fletcher in Sydney. As each of his 12 children were born he stated that he came from Kilkenny. Jane was born in Mountshannon Co.Clare. After many years we have been unable to establish anything at all regarding his shipping or birth, but by ages given. as he registered his children, he was born c1827. We visited Kilkenny in 1995 and travelled around some of the lovely villages and appreciated the beautiful country side, passing through Mullinavat, Catstown, Knocktopher, Mooncoin, Callan, Bennetts Town, Thomas Town and many other places. I managed to buy a Kilkenny crystal heart etched with the Claddagh symbol. Happy memories of a forbears land but no detail of William.

O'HEARN, Daniel, Kilkenny circa 1790.

Daniel's son John, and perhaps another son James, acquired eighty acres of farmland in Maple Grove, Wisconsin, U.S.A. by grant deed from the U.S. government in the year 1852. The deed signed by President Millard Fillmore listed them as James O. Haran and John O. Haran. John was born in Kilkenny circa 1822. It is likely that they arrived in Wisconsin from Ontario, Canada.
