Births, Marriages and Deaths in the INDEX series from 1864 through 1958. This is a index that point the way to finding the original handwritten entry for Births, Marriages and Deaths. Its not the original handwritten Registration entry, just an alphabetical list of names in a index. You must first know the year you want a lookup in, and if
it is a birth marriage or death. Please note this index is huge so Meg can't do blanket lookups. You must ask for something specific (For example John Smith, Death, 1877.) The data That you get in the Index films is called the Registration Information, or the Reference Information, or the Reference Numbers. It cosits of the Name, year, Quarter if the event took place after 1879, parish, volume, page number. With this information you can order the full record from the GRO. The price of a full photocopy from the GRO is only 1.90 Euros.
Louth has 3 Registration districts, Ardee, Drogheda and Dundalk. Smaller towns / villages won't be listed, only one of these 3 districts. An example of a January 1900 Death Index entry would be 1900, 1Q, SMITH John, 99, Ardee 1-234. John SMITH died age 99, registered in the book of Ardee Deaths, 1st Quarter of 1900 volume 1 page 234. If you order a photocopy from the GRO, the cost is E1.90 as you have the specific Registration information. The division of each year into 4 Quarters began in 1879.
Marriages for Church of Ireland marriages only from 1845 through 1863.
This service is provided by Meg free of charge - However in the intrest of sharing genealogy info, anyone who recieves a scanned image it is asked that they write up all entries on the page and post them to the Louth List. If you are not a member of the louth list you can send the transcript back to MEG so it can be posted to the list.
