The Irish Surnames Brennan, Corcoran, Coffey and Gahagan in County Mayo and County Roscommon, Ireland

The research data compiled in this website section covers surnames Brennan, Corcoran, Coffey, Gahagan and all of their known variations such as Brannon, Brannan, Coffee, Coffey, Coffy, Gaughan, Goaghan, and Geoghegan, Goghan etc., I am also including Surnames Cochrane and Goggin in all record compilations. I have presented the Catholic Church records by spouse's surname. In doing so, I have made many other Irish Surnames readily searchable in this website. (If your Irish ancestor or their family married a Brennan, Corcoran, Coffey or Gahagan or any variations of these surnames they will be presented in the my Catholic Church Records section alphabetically by your ancestor's surname.) I have also been documenting the Frain and McNulty baptismal and marriage records as I work my way through these films. I haven't put any of these records on line. If you have a McNulty or Frain ancestor in one of these Catholic Parishes, please feel free to contact me and I will check my transcriptions and see what I have documented for you.

Current Focus of my Research as of August 19, 2014:

( I have done very little work on my website since December due to other committments but will be resuming my research as time permits). I have just finished documenting the Irish in the 1871 Leeds North Leeds census and am now focused on the Brennans/Corcorans/Coffees/Gahagans in Bradford, Yorkshire, Bradford East End. I have just completed a page on the Irish in Bradford and have finished going through all 34 districts of Bradford West End, 1851 Census and have found Surnames Brennan, Corcoran, Gohagan and Coffee in these districts and all 48 districts of Bradford East End 1851 Census identifying Brennans, Corcorans and Gahagans in these districts. I have just completed all 21 districts of the 1841 Bradford West End Census and have identified Brennans and Gahagans, the 29 districts of the 1861 Bradford West End Census identifying Brennans and Gahagans, the 1871 Bradford West End Census districts 1-27 identifying Brennans and Corcoran. Ancestry.com did not have a district 7 or a 13 listed on their database for the 1871 West End census. After completion of all 24 districts in the 1881 Bradford West End Census I have identified many Brennans and only one true Corcoran variant. I have just finished analyzing the Brennans, Corcorans, Coffees and Gahagans in the 1851 Liverpool Dale Street Sub Registration districts 1a-1z. I am now analyzing the 1851 Liverpool Howard Sub Registration Districts having completed 1a-1k identifying Brennans , Coffeys, Gahagans and Corcorans thus far. I have just put a page online on the Coffey Families of Tully, Tibohine Civil Parish, County Roscommon, Ireland, Michael and Margaret Corcoran family of Liverpool, Lancashire (he hails from County Roscommmon and she is from Dublin) and the Thomas Joseph Brennan and Winifred Nolan Family from Swinford, Mayo, Ireland who Emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Brennan Families Hailing from the Townland of Tullynahoo, Kilconduff Civil Parish, County Mayo, Ireland: An Analysis of their Migration Trails from Ireland to England and to the U.S. documented in Ireland and England Catholic Church Records, the Griffith's Valuation, England and US Census and other Records

South Bend, Indiana Irish Community: Thus far I have created pages on over 57 South Bend Irish families from this area (not including my own) and identified 21Irish families who have only made a brief appearance in South Bend records. I am currently updating the other sections of my website. If anyone out there has volume one of the South Bend Tribune publication South Bend Remembered Volume 1 please contact me as I would love to purchase a copy.

Leeds, Yorkshire England Irish: I have just completed extracting the Irish from districts 1-10 1871 Leeds, North Leeds England census as well as Districts 11-21; 22-32, 33-44 , 45-56, 57-71, Cavalry Barracks, Moral and Industrial Training School for Pauper Children, Workhouse.

Huddersfield England Irish. I have just completed analyzing all of the Irish immigrants in the Huddersfield Yorkshire England 1851 Census.

New York Passenger Arrival Lists Research:

I have just finished documenting the Brennan, Corcoran, Coffey and Gahagan passengers arriving the 2nd quarter of 1852 from Connaght Ports and Liverpool. I just finished the first quarter of 1850 documenting these four surnames. (I have also made notations on the pages of travelers from Cork, London, Limerick etc)

County Mayo, Ireland Microfilm Research:

Ballina Catholic Parish, County Mayo, Ireland- Items 15-16: This is one of the worst films I have looked at in a long time. The writing is all but invisible on a large portion of the pages! I have done my best to transcribe these records but if you feel your family is from this area, I would strongly suggest that you order this film yourself- you may capture something I have missed if you have additional information that may help you decipher the "tea leaves"! I have thus far identified Brennans, Corcorans and Gaughans in this film, documented baptismal records through February 1835 and have more to add through 1836 as well as marriages through June 1828. This film is on hold until I get a chance to get back to the FHC library in January.

Bekan Catholic Parish, County Mayo, Ireland: I previously identified the Brennans and Corcorans in this film back in 2011 before I identified my Coffee and Gahagan 3rd GGP's. I have identified a few Coffey families in this film and a few Geoghegans as witnesses. I will return to this film at a later time for a more detailed search.

Backs Roman Catholic Parish which includes Ballynahaglish and Kilbelfad Civil Parishes: I am currently working my way through the first section of Item 5 Film 1279205 Marriages and have identified Gaughans, Corcorans and Brennans.

Kilfian Catholic Parish, County Mayo, Ireland. Microfilm 1279205. I have just finished analyzing this film and have identified both several Brennan, Corcoran and many Gaughan baptismal records.

Kilgeever Civil Parish (Louisburgh): page created on the David Geoghegan/Winifred Cain Family and David Geoghegan/Mary Collins Family of Kilgeever, County Mayo, Ireland.

The following data is included below: Surnames Brennan, Corcoran, Coffee, Gahagan and all variations in Surname Distribution Maps, Directories, Griffith's Valuation- County Mayo, Church Records- County Mayo (expanding to County Roscommon in the future), book references etc., I am also documenting all Brennan, Corcoran, Coffee, Gahagan (and all variations) documented as being born in County Mayo or County Roscommon in the 1851,1861,1871 and 1881 England Census Records. If you find your families in these records please contact me - I would love to hear from you and would be happy to share all I have on that family with you. My goal is to tie these families together through the church records, census records and all other available sources as well as to provide their final destination to benefit everyone in the search for their family.
