Benson
|
I have a copy of a bible
record for Bensons in Co Meath which starts with Thomas and Mary
first child born in 1704. There are no wives surnames (mostly
Mary!) The family moved to Dublin about 1820 and were
mostly silk weavers and organ builders. They were members of the
C of I. Would be overjoyed to meet any interested people Margaret

Benson
|
The family of Samuel Benson (1787-1853)
(farmer) and Charlotte Walker (1783-1861) came from Summerhill
and then Rathmolyon. They emigrated to Australia in 1841 on the
'Earl Grey' which sailed from Plymouth. They had 6 children, David
(1813- ), James (1817-1905); born Summerhill, Thomas (1819-1873);
born Summerhill , Charlotte (1820- );born Rathmolyon, Anne Jane(1823
- ); born Rathmolyon and Louisa (1825-1860); born Rathmolyon.
It appears that David did not emigrate to Australia with them.
They were sponsored to Australia by William Walker and their calling
was gardener, dairy maid, house servant. I am interested in finding
out about these towns and also anyone who may have information
about these families. Charlotte Walker's parents were named David
and Anne and she also wasborn in County Meath.

Bergin
|
Upon my Mothers recent burial, I also
visited a Small Catholic cemetary in Paulding Mississippi. [Jasper
County] My maternal grandparents and great-grandparents are buried
there. The surnames that I would like to add are Bergin and Brogan.
Patrick Peter Bergin's tombstone states that he was born in County
Meath on Oct. 1, 1796. His Wife Mary is buried beside him and
his brothers are also buried at the foot of his grave. These are
my mother's grandparents, but there are also many other old tombstones
there of folks who came from County Meath.
There are still several Bergin families
is this tiny community. It thrived at one time,The church there
is the oldest Catholic church in MS and is kept up by one of the

Note: Some interesting
information here on general research concerning research. I'm

the process of copying all of the Byrne named in the Land Registry
for Meath and Louth. My grtgrdfather, John Burns (Byrne)
was born in Meath 1819/20. Ihave located four so named born
at that time and trying to determine which is mine.
I have also listed all the the Byrne families listed in the 1821
Census of Navan Upper and Lower.

Carolan
|
Thomas Carolan (1787 - 1867), and his daughter, Julia (1835 - 1912), were from Nobber, Co. Meath. They came to the USA in 1850, settling first in Jersey City, NJ. Other family members may have accompanied them. They moved to Canton, Illinois in 1855 where Thomas died. Julia married Michael Daily from Galway in 1859. She is my gg grandmother.
A son of Thomas, Bernard (1836 - 1906), came to Newark, NJ in 1852. A cabinetmaker, he served 1861 - 1864 in the 2nd NJ Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded and partially disabled in the Battle of the Wilderness. Bernard later moved to Canton, married Mary J Finan, and raised a family.

Trying to trace our grand
father MICHAEL CARPENTER's birth / baptismal record in order to
find details of his parents ( my great grandfather & great
grandmother). Known details are as follows which may be added
to your database if you wish..

in 1901 census as living alone @ CROSSDRUM,OLDCASTLE CO. MEATH

he died at CROSSDRUM in 1925, leaving a widow, She was ROSE ANN
MULDOON born in Mountnugent Parish, Cavan in 1885 and died in
1978 and is perhaps buried at St. Mary's, Moylough, Oldcastle,
Co.Meath. ( Currently awaiting a response from St. Mary's).

Holy Sacrament ( now known as St.Osburgs). They have 5 children
- all still living and all of whom were raised in Coventry.
They are both still dearly missed by their children and grand
children. ROSE - born ????-died 1978 - my Aunt Oddie who spent
most of her life in a Convent in Mullingar I believe she would
have been in her 70's when she died or possibly her late 60's? . We
have written to Westmeath Heritage Centre who say they cannot
