McCann
|
Hello,
Have been searching for ties to my
Gr-Gr-Grandfather John McCann born 1828 in County Meath (I believe).
I was originally told he was from Westmeath but I found a John McCann
listed in USA naturalization papers at the courthouse near where
he settled in USA -- the naturalization papers left his date of
birth blank but stated he was from "Eastmeath."
I have been told that Meath was sometimes referred to as "Eastmeath"
?? He arrived in USA ~1847 --- possibly 5/17/1847 -- this
date is uncertain -- I have been unable to find him on passenger
ship records among the many John McCanns listed. He may have
a younger sister Margaret (born ~1832) or she could be a cousin
-- her name shows up as a witness to the baptism of some of Johns
children in 1852. Is there any way to find out if he still
has ties (McCann family) in Meath ?? Are there ship or church
records that list persons who immigrated to USA in those days?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Patrick M. McCann
