TOWNLANDS OF THE PARISH OF BALLYNAKILL. 1. Ballynakill, . Ballinakill	town of the church.
2. Carrickcoola, Carrickcoola	rock of the angle of the melting or smelting (local).
3. Carrowkeel, . Carrowkeel	narrow quarter.
4. Cloonagh, Clonagh	meadow land.
5. Clooskirt,	The name is uncertain. The form in the Down Survey, cros ceart, right cross, is probably the correct one.
6. Cuiltydangan, Culthidian	fast woods.
7. Drumederalena,	ridge between two meadows.
8. Glen, .Glan	a valley.
9. Kinkillew, . Kincullue	head of the wood, wood-head.
10. Lissaneeny, . Lisvaney	fort of the fair or meeting.
11. Mullaghmore, Mullaghmore	great summit.
12. Rockbrook, . Rockbrook	-
13. Rooghan, Roughane	reddish land
14. Rusheen, Rusheenfin	A small point of land. The term is also applied to a small wood.
15. Sooey, . Suoye	abounding in sorrel.
16. Tunnagh,, Tannagh	a mound or rampart.

We have appended the list of townlands, and their meaning based on the Irish name, from Wood-Martin Vol. 3, and, in italics, the name as it appears in the Tithe Applotment.

3. The Tithe Applotment names were probably supplied by the land owner from his records. The names are hand-written, and thus subject to many potential errors in transcription, especially my inability to read 1824 Irish hand-writing from a journal.

4. The numbers with each name appear to be in pencil, and probably applied by the Irish Land Commission. The Applotment book also contains the area and value of each holding, and these are available on the film.
