Grave Yards, Cemetaries and Churches of County Wicklow

 

Glenealy


Glenealy is found on the road from Rathdrum to the Meeting of the Waters at Avoca.
This cemetery picture looks across to the Roman Catholic Church on the main Road through the town of Glenealy.

St Kevins Glendalough


The English name Glendalough comes from the Irish Gleann Dá Locha which translates to "The valley of the two lakes".
It was here that St. Kevin founded a monastery in the sixth century.

Old Kilbride Cemetery (Near Arklow)


Known as the Monument Cemetery, The structure within the grave yard is "Pyramid Shaped" over 200 years old, is reputed to be the only other Pyramid outside Egypt. Now lies in ruin, with only 169 known headstones recorded, with over 517 individuals buried here. Rich or poor Viscounts or fisherman it makes no difference they lay side by side in the mess of Kilbride.

Shillalegh Church


The picturesque site chosen for the Church and graveyard was granted by the then Earl Fitzwilliam. The church was built in 1833-4 with additions being made in 1888.
