NOTES
May 13th, 2006
Our second meeting of the year was held on May 13, 2006. Twenty enthusiastic Italian genealogists joined the PIP #27 Chicago North group.
Dan Niemiec opened the meeting advising of the P.O.I.N.T. national conference that will be held in Los Angeles, California on October 6th thru the 8th, 2006. Our P.I.P. #27 Chicago North awarded Terry Jackson a scholarship award. This will pay the registration fee for Terry to attend the national conference in October. Check out their web site at http://www.pointpointers.net/CONF2006.htm (You have to capitalize the CONF).
Suggested local conferences: Illinois State Genealogical Society holds its annual conference October 14th at the Holiday Inn in Itasca. The conference web site is http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilsgs/fallconf/2006falconf.html.
Dan Niemiec is going to visit Salt Lake and plans to do more research. He passed out research tips when visiting in Salt Lake City, Utah. The most important note for Italian researchers in Salt Lake is that not all films are on shelf – you have to plan which films you think you will need, and order them in advance (there is no cost to do this) so they will be on shelf when you arrive. They will make 5 films per person per day if they have to make a copy from the vault. You can find which of your films are on-shelf and which are in the vault by looking them up in the Family History Library catalog at www.familysearch.org.
Roy Rendino first timer is researching Muro Lucano. The surnames are Rendina and Vitiello. Susan Stern is pursuing the name of Sericko.
She needs help locating the town they came from. She is also not sure of the
correct spelling of Sericko, and there have been name changes in 3 generations
of her family (not including marriages!).
Carleene Laskero is searching the name Panniero her grandfather’s
surname. Her grandmother Rose Nuccio was born in Louisiana.
Our meeting schedule for the remainder of the year is as follows.
July 8, 2006 Carole Magnuson will be speaking on Passage Express, a software program that will help you easily create interactive DVDs and slide shows for your family history- really slick program!
Mike Bacarella, author, historian and actor, will be speaking at our September 9th meeting. We will have more on the topic and specifics later.
Linda Fortunato Davenport will be speaking at our year-end meeting November 11th. We do not have topic specific yet. But be assured that Linda will give us a great presentation benefited by all.
As always please check our web site for any further details or changes to our meeting dates. http://www.rootsweb.com/~itappcnc/index.htm
