NOTES
July 8th, 2006
PIP #27 Chapter Chicago North met on Saturday July 8, 2006.
It was our third meeting of the year and 22 were in attendance. Elizabeth
Esterly was announced as the winner of PIP 1 scholarship to the POINT National
conference in October. Dan Niemiec
opened the meeting and advised our group of the up and coming conferences to be
held in our area's this coming year.
First timers included: George and Carla Battaglini trying to
find a passenger list of their immigrant ancestor who came over in 1905. Lynn Romito is looking for her grandfathers
birth record. Paul Coppola advised us
that he is driving his family crazy trying to find the name of the town where
his ancestors emigrated from. Elizabeth
Esterly advised her ancestor came in 1909 to Savannah, Illinois. She has already gone back four generations
on her paternal side of the family.
Carole Magnuson gave a demonstration of "Passage

Carole demonstrated how easily you can put your family story
on a DVD using material you have already collected such as photos, documents,
family stories, movies, audio files etc.
You can focus your project to showcase an entire family or only on one
side of your paternal or maternal sides.
You can cover a specific event, wedding, family vacation or graduation.
You can record MP3, WMA, OGG formats from old cassette
tapes. Any computer file can be added
to this program. Add narrations, text
files, or pictures or any other document.
Design your own menus and images. You can create beautiful slideshows
with photo transitions, music and/or narration. Imports all genealogy files plus it can import pictures, sound
and video files from Legacy, RootsMagic, PAF, Ancestral Quest, and Family Tree
Maker genealogy programs. The program
is very easy to use.
Our next meeting
will be held on September 9, 2006. Mike
Baccarella - author, historian, actor - will be our speaker - topic
"Italians in the Napoleonic Wars". Mike has written several books on Italian history in America and
has appeared in The Untouchables, Johnny Dangerously, Major League, The
Fugitive, and episodes of Chicago Hope and ER.
Our final meeting of the year will be November 11, 2006 Linda Fortunato-Davenport
- presenter at "Discover Your Italian Roots" conference and attorney
- will be our speaker - topic TBD.
Linda has been a well-received speaker at past PIP meetings and at our
conference.
