PIP #27 Chapter Chicago North met on Saturday July 8, 2006. It was our third meeting of the year and 22 were in attendance. Elizabeth Esterly was announced as the winner of PIP 1 scholarship to the POINT National conference in October.  Dan Niemiec opened the meeting and advised our group of the up and coming conferences to be held in our area's this coming year.

First timers included: George and Carla Battaglini trying to find a passenger list of their immigrant ancestor who came over in 1905.   Lynn Romito is looking for her grandfathers birth record.  Paul Coppola advised us that he is driving his family crazy trying to find the name of the town where his ancestors emigrated from.  Elizabeth Esterly advised her ancestor came in 1909 to Savannah, Illinois.  She has already gone back four generations on her paternal side of the family.

Carole Magnuson gave a demonstration of "Passage Express".  You can get more information for this product by going to www.passageexpress.com or calling 1-866-810-5050.

Carole demonstrated how easily you can put your family story on a DVD using material you have already collected such as photos, documents, family stories, movies, audio files etc.  You can focus your project to showcase an entire family or only on one side of your paternal or maternal sides.  You can cover a specific event, wedding, family vacation or graduation.

You can record MP3, WMA, OGG formats from old cassette tapes.  Any computer file can be added to this program.  Add narrations, text files, or pictures or any other document.  Design your own menus and images. You can create beautiful slideshows with photo transitions, music and/or narration.  Imports all genealogy files plus it can import pictures, sound and video files from Legacy, RootsMagic, PAF, Ancestral Quest, and Family Tree Maker genealogy programs.  The program is very easy to use.

Our  next meeting will be held on September 9, 2006.  Mike Baccarella - author, historian, actor - will be our speaker - topic "Italians in the Napoleonic Wars".  Mike has written several books on Italian history in America and has appeared in The Untouchables, Johnny Dangerously, Major League, The Fugitive, and episodes of Chicago Hope and ER.  Our final meeting of the year will be November 11, 2006 Linda Fortunato-Davenport - presenter at "Discover Your Italian Roots" conference and attorney - will be our speaker - topic TBD.  Linda has been a well-received speaker at past PIP meetings and at our conference.
