For well over 5 decades La Societa’ San Michele has existed and has brought many of us together to celebrate, remember Senerchia and praise San Michele. My entire life consists of memories of picnics in Bohemian Park, precessions through the streets of Astoria and family gatherings that were second to none. Unfortunately, over the years, many of our original members have passed away. Recently with the death of my Dad, Vincenzo Iannece and Angelomaria Mazzone, our society lost 2 of our most dedicated members who represented very large segments of the Senerchia family. We will miss them, as we miss all our beloved departed family members and friends. They will remain in our hearts forever and will always be a big part of Il Nostra Societa.

As time passes and more of our original active members leave us, we know it is difficult to stay together. Each year La Societa’ San Michele holds two (2) masses on the feast days of San Michele and sponsors a picnic in Massapequa, Long Island. This years’ picnic is scheduled for Sunday August 27th, and more information on it is enclosed. Those that attended the last mass in April, last year’s picnic, or any of the many others we had over the years, know that it’s a wonderful opportunity to see everyone and those that we haven’t seen in a while. If you haven’t attended either the masses or picnic in a while, we urge you to participate. You won’t be sorry.

In an effort to try and stay in touch, let me give you information that may assist you with getting re-acquainted with family and friends of Senerchia from around the world. Senerchiagroups@yahoo.com is a website dedicated exclusively to the Senerchese from around the world. With this web-site you will be able to search your ancestry, talk to long lost friends and family from England, France, Italy and the U.S., and share pictures, stories and memories with everyone. I personally was able to trace the Iannece family back to the 1700’s and talk to cousins in London, Nice and Chicago. This web site is wonderful, it is put together by two (2) hard working ladies whose ancestry is from Senerchia, and I thank them for all their hardwork and effort. I strongly urge you to sign in, join and share the Senerchia experience.

Furthermore, those that remember the Senerchia trip in 1975, remember an incredible experience that well over 50 of us from the U.S/NY area took part in and left us with memories that lasted us a lifetime. Interest has been expressed again to run a group trip back to Senerchia for the Summer of 2007. If you think this is a good idea, are interested and/or would like to help, please let me know. I will follow up on this when I get positive feedback and more information.
