The recent history of the Potawatomi begins in the Great Lakes region of North America. The Citizen Band of Oklahoma and the Prairie Band of Kansas is made up of descendants of Potawatomi from the Great Lakes Area. They were in the United Band of Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi of the Lakes region. They began being moved further and further from their homeland as the White man moved westward the Native Americans were pushed westward also. Into Iowa and then on to Kansas, and into Oklahoma. There are a vast number of people of Potawatomi ancestry along this migratory path of heartbreak and tears and broken lives.
