BIOGRAPHY
John began practicing as a physician in 1854 and continued until his
retirement in 1880. This according to a document entitled "BUSINESS
AND PROFESSIONAL MEN OF BRUCEVILLE" on the Knox Co., IN website taken
from a book entitled "A History of Bruceville, IN".

RESEARCH
Fort Bruce, a palisaded fortification, around which several houses
were clustered, was built near the present site of the town in 1812.
It was established for protection from incursions by the Indians, who
the year before had taken captive the grandmother of Dr. George
Mayfield. She had been carried into Kentucky, but her release was soon
secured. This according to a document entitled "BUSINESS AND
PROFESSIONAL MEN OF BRUCEVILLE" on the Knox Co., IN website taken from
a book entitled "A History of Bruceville, IN".

RESEARCH
Buried near David in the Little River Presbyterian Church cemetery are
Jean Allison (born Aug. 28, 1772, died June 29, 1815) and David
Allison (born Oct. 18, 1763, died Aug. 22, 1839). Who are they?

BIOGRAPHY
John is believed to be the brother who immigrated to America with
Thomas. According to info contained in [UL: Rowntree and Rountree
Family History, :UL] page nine states that Thomas Rountree immigrated
to America with his brother. When Thomas returned to Ireland, the
brother stayed in America. John "fought in the Revolutionary War with
England and after the war he married and raised a family."
Page ten states "George Rountree wrote a letter on July 1, 1899,
which says my forefather John Rountree was one of the sons who moved
from Pennsylvania to Tar River, N.C. and from there to Green County,
Georgia, and from there to Emanuel County, Georgia, then a wilderness
about the year 1800. This practically shows that Thomas and John
Rountree were brothers. John Rountree had twin sons born about 1783
named George and Joshua, and a daughter Nancy born later." "A John
Rountree lived on the Tar River in North Carolina, whose descendants
emigrated to Georgia and became very numerous." The Tar River is not
too far from Orange Co. where Thomas settled when he returned from
Ireland.
This John Rountree is found in the 1790 census in the Tar River
District of Edgecomb Co., NC. The household consisted of one white
male age 21-60 (John), two white females of all ages, and two slaves.

RESEARCH
NEED to search for John Rountree's Revolutionary War records as they
might offer further proof of parentage.
