State of Texas, County of Harrison.
Know all men by these presents. I, L. L. CAIN of the state and county
aforesaid being indebted to Edward Kahn of same county and state for
advances to make a crop in the year 1872 - and not being able to pay for
said advance - I could not make a crop, and in order to secure to said
Kahn the prompt payment for all past and further and all advances, I
hereby mortgage, fileage and hypothecate unto said E. Kahn all crop I may
make during the year 1872 and all crops hereafter until said advances are
paid and furthermore to make the said E. Kahn more secure, I hereby
mortgage, pledge, and hypothecate unto the said E. Kahn all stock now
owned by me and all that I may own hereafter until said advances are paid
for, hereby promise to not remove said stock from the limits of the said
state under the penalty of law.
The conditions and obligations are such that should I promptly pay
said advances then this obligation to be null and void otherwise in full
force and effect.
In testimony whereof my hand and seal on this the 1st day of April
1872.

Personally appeared before me S. Lehrman one of the witnesses to the
foregoing mortgage lien leaving date the 1st day of April 1872.
Whereupon _____ says that the grantor of the within lien acknowledges
that they had signed the same for the purpose and consideration therein
specified and that he had signed the same as a witness at the request of
the grantors.
To certify which I hereunto sign my name and affix my official seal at
Jonesville the 16th day of May 1872. J. A. Price, Notary Public Ex-
officio.
I certify the above and foregoing to be a true and correct copy of the
original mortgage lien and certificate of proof as filed in my office May
24, 1872 at 7 1/2 O'clock AM. This the 11th day of June 1872.

State of Texas, County of Harrison.
Know all men by these presents that I, L. L. CAIN of the county and state
aforesaid for and in consideration of the sum of fifty eight dollars and
seventy cents in U S Currency which has been advanced to me in clothing
&c in good faith to enable me to make the present crop this year AD 1874
by S Cohn and without which said advancement so made by the said S Cohn
it would be impossible for me to make said crop. Now therefore I have
this day bargained, sold, ____liened and conveyed of my rights, title and
interest to all the crop of cotton which I shall make this present year
AD 1874 to secure the payment of the aforesaid debts on or before the
first day of January AD 1875 and the said L. L. CAIN has hereby
authorized and empowered the said S. Cohn either in person or by agent to
take possession of said crops and to sell the same whenever he may think
is best so to a_and to pay himself the aforesaid debt and all the
expenses of making, according and collecting the upon this instrument
provided he shall have to employ an attorney and if any money shall
remain in his hand after the said payment then he shall pay the same over
to the said L. L. Cain on his order. Witness my hand and seal using s--

Before me W. C. Pierce, clerk of District Court of Harrison County
appeared L. L. CAIN to me well known and acknowledged that he had
executed the annexed mortgages or instrument in writing, bearing date on
the 15th day of June, AD1874 for the purposes & considerations and
f______ therein stated.
To certify which I hereto sign my name and affix the seal of my office at
the city of Marshall, this the 15th day of June AD 1874.
