Before WWI Vistytis was in the powiat (district) of Wolkowyszk in the gubernia (province) of Suwalk in the Russian Empire. The names were Wysztynce (Russian), Wysztyniec (Polish), Wystiten (Prussians), and Vishtinetz (Yiddish).
