A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in the county of Cumbria, England, which was created in 1974 by merging the former counties of Cumberland and Westmorland, and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire (West Riding).   3. UK-NORTHWEST. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in the Northwest part of England (Cumberland, Lancashire and Westmorland Counties). Beginners and experienced researchers are welcome. Topics include how to start and conduct genealogy research; why we love genealogy and how it feels when you find another ancestor; requests for lookups; new lists, resources, and URLs; finding information and clues and keeping records; local history related to Monumental Inscriptions; and sharing information on the recording of monumental inscriptions, identifying and presenting related records, and searching for details on the location of monumental inscriptions.   4. WEST-MARCHES. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical or historical interest in the West Marches administrative area in the south of Scotland and north of England (most of the historic Scottish counties of Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire, Dumfriesshire, Kirkcudbrightshire and Wigtownshire and the historic English counties of Cumberland and Westmorland) in order to air cross-boundary movements and assist researchers who are uncertain of the precise location of their forebears. The West Marches started c1100 and ceased to exist on the Union of the English and Scottish Crowns in 1603.
