If you would like to adopt a prefecture of Japan, you will need three things:
- Knowledge of HTML.
- FTP capability.
- Web site space on a server. We can get you an account on Rootsweb for free for your prefecture site if you need it.
Your web site should have the following:
- We would like you to display the JapanGenWeb logo, but it is not required.
- A place to post queries. I have each of the prefectures on line with GenConnect and you won't have to worry about posting them. Ask me if you want to know more about how to run a GenConnect Board. If you do not want to use the GenConnect board, it is not required.
- A listing of where one might find resources for researching genealogy in your prefecture. Note: It is NOT your job to do research or answer queries! But if you adopt a prefecture, we expect you to try to find out where people can get records, either addresses or WWW links. If there are census records or similar public records that are not copyrighted and you can put them online for direct research, that would be great!
Other items can include a page to post links to people's personal web sites with genealogy relating to your prefecture and links to web sites of interest relating to your prefecture. If you can read and write Japanese and can put the web site in Japanese, too, that would be the best! We want this web site to serve the Japanese people as well as Japanese immigrants to other countries.
