All prefectures in Japan are currently available for adoption. Clicking on a prefecture's name within the chart will take you to the prefecture's temporary page. (For example, here's Aichi-ken's temporary page.) Volunteers who adopt prefectures will make their own version of a prefectural page containing information relevant to the area. People interested in making local pages within each prefecture will provide links from their page to the prefectural page. The people maintaining the prefectural page will, likewise, provide a link from their page to the local page. Query Forms On each temporary prefecture's page is a query form. Researchers searching for family histories within a specific prefecture use this query form to post requests for information. Researchers living either abroad and/or in Japan sometimes merely wish to exchange information with other researchers investigating the same family name. In some cases researchers do not know where their relatives came from and they therefore must post their queries on a the general queries page. Some people are searching for information about ancestors from ancient Japan. These queries are contained on the historical queries page. You may use the query form to perform a search on a surname.
