You'd be a great volunteer! Though most visitors to the Japan GenWeb page are interested in Japan, some have had no experience reading or using hiragana, katakana or kanji. The Japan GenWeb project is part of an international volunteer project. The Japan GenWeb page is happy to host queries from anyone in any corner of the world. English is the primary language for communicating with others on the Japan GenWeb pages. (We know there are loads of other beautiful languages in the world besides English. Our apologies that the Japan GenWeb page isn't able, as of yet, to take advantage of more of them.) Since nearly all of the messages and questions from researchers are posted in English, you'll need to be able to write and read English. (In this case being able to speak English is not as important as being able to read and write it.) You don't have to travel to another country to interact in English with other people. If you've taken some sort of English language qualifications, that's great! If you've never taken a test and don't have any qualifications except for an interest in using English to help other people, well, that's great too! Your age and occupation are not as important as your desire to help others and persevere using English. We'd love to have you as a volunteer. If you don't have confidence in your own English skills, how about introducing this as a project to a group of your friends who are interested in English? How about as a project for your English circle? As the member of a volunteer group, you could consult each other with questions and all work together to manage a page.
