Death of the first soldier to be killed in action from the Kiowa community was announced last week when it was learned that Staff Sgt. Boyd Clark had made the supreme sacrifice in France on June 24. He is the son of Mrs. Tillie Clark.

Boyd Clark was born at Attica, Kansas, December 18, 1911, and moved to Kiowa with his parents when a small boy. He attended school in Kiowa and graduated with the class of 1929.

He was employed by the ice divisions of the Western Light & Telephone Co. in Kiowa at the time he entered the service on February 26, 1942. He was with the 8th Infantry and went overseas about six months ago. He was with the invasion forces on "D" day.

The last letter from Boyd to his mother was dated June 14 and it reached her on July 4.

Besides his mother, Mrs. Tillie Clark of Kiowa, Boyd leaves a brother Leroy, to mourn his loss. Leroy is also in the armed services and is stationed at a evacuation hospital in England. He is a corporal in the Medical Corps.
