Mrs. Nancy Garten Dead.

Mrs. Nancy Garten, known as "Grandma Garten", and loved by countless friends, died at the home of her grand-daughter, Mrs. George Smith, near Forrest city, Sunday, September 5, from cardiac dropsy.

She was born in Kentucky August 6th, 1834 and was 81 years and 30 days of age when she passed away. She was married in the year 1885 to Charles Garten and removed to Kansas in 1874. She was the mother of ten children, six of whom, with the husband, preceded her in death.

She has lived in a consistant Christian life and was a kind, patient and motherly old lady, loved dearly by all who knew her. She passed away peacefully and willingly, knowing that she was soon to inherit her heavenly reward. Her maiden name was Nancy Ellen Pendleton. The surviving children are Charles Garten of Medicine Lodge, Kansas and Henderson Garten of Lindsay, Oklahoma. Twenty-nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive her.

The world is better for her having lived in it and the beautiful example of Christian womanhood which this grand old lady has left behind will be an everlasting and cherished heritage for the loved ones who mourn her departure. The funeral services were held at the Forrest City Church on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Charles A. Murray, Pastor of the Christian church of this city. The body was interred in the Garten private burial ground near Forrest.

To the sorrowing children and relatives of the deceased is extended the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
