Death of Mrs. George Likes
Mrs. George Likes passed away at her home south of Sun City on Saturday, Feb. 9, 1918. She had been suffering with a cancer the last eight months. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the sorrowing relatives in their bereavement.Betty E. Short was born at Charleston, West Virginia, April 1, 1854, died Feb. 9, 1918, aged 64 years, 5 months and 1 day. At the age of fifteen she, with her parents, moved to Osceola, Iowa.
She was married Jan. 2, 1876, to George W. Likes, and to this union were born four children, two of whom preceded her in death. The family moved to Kansas, June 2, 1893.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, two daughters, Mrs. M. B. Johnson, Hugoton, Kans., and Mrs. H. J. Hansen of Sun City; two brothers, Wilford Short, Alberta, Canada, C. H. Short, Osceola, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. F. A. Farley, Moline, Ill.
She was converted when 14 years old and united with the Baptist church of which she was a member until her death. She was an active worker in the church and Ladies Aid Society, and will be greatly missed by all.
The funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. Woods and her remains were laid to rest in the cemetery east of town, to wait the resurrection morn.
