Mary (Adams) Saunders

OBITUARY

Mary (Adams) Saunders was born in McLaughlin County, Kentucky March 25, 1856 to Rev. J. M. Adams and wife. She lived in Kentucky until 14 years of age. Then the family moved to Douglas county, Kansas. Two years later in 1872, the family came to Barber county.

She was united in marriage to Frank J. Saunders in Sun City, April 14, 1878. To this union were born five children; Maud Johnson, who preceded her in death two years, Mabel Press of Medicine Lodge, Walter Saunders of Sun City, Florence Morris of Medicine Lodge, and Ruth Riepe of Sun City, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Mr. Saunders died Nov. 19, 1906 at Sun City. Aunt Mollie, as she was lovingly called by her many friends, died Sept. 26, 1934, after a very short illness, at the age of 78 years, and 6 months. She was converted at the age of 16 years and united with the Baptist church. She lived a consistent Christian life as far as she knew how. Almost her last words were for God to take her home. Her greatest pleasure was in helping others, and as she was one of the oldest pioneers of Barber county she had many opportunities to help the needy and discouraged ones.

Funeral services were at the Baptist church in Sun City conducted by Rev. Woods of Wilmore. Interment made in Lake City cemetery.
