FUNERAL OF JOHN MYERS

SERVICES AT ZION, WHERE HE HELPED TO ESTABLISH CHURCH

The funeral services of John Myers, who settled seven miles west of the city nearly 53 years ago and had lived on his homestead continuously since then, were held at Zion church at 10 this morning. They were conducted by Dr. W.A. Keve, pastor of the Chanute Methodist Church.

Mr. Myers was 74 years, 9 months, and 26 days old, having been born in Germany March 3, 1849. He came to America at the age of 4, residing in Syracuse and Baldwinsville, N.Y., then moving to Plainfield, Illinois.

He came to Kansas in the fall of 1869 and settled on his homestead January 25, 1870. October 9, 1871 he married Miss Caroline King of Richmond, Kansas. They were the parents of two sons, Charles H. and Park Myers, who still reside on the old homestead. Mrs. Myers died February 17, 1897.

Mr. Myers was one of the contributors to the first house of worship where the Zion Church now stands. He was an estimable citizen, liberal in all enterprises for the upbuilding of the community. Those who knew him sincerely regret the loss of a true Friend.
