                                        History of the Chanute Genealogical Society:

                                                Chanute Genealogical Society was formed in 1971 by Dr. Eric Conard following

                                                several sessions of his instructing in genealogy at the Neosho County Community

                                                Junior College.  The society is a non-profit organization created to promote

 
                                                education in family record research, protect and preserve public records, accumulate

                                                records to be published for posterity, and meetings to stimulate interest in genealogy

                                                and the exchange of ideas.

NCCC Library:

The NCCC Library contains many genealogical reference materials on all the states as well as

local references.  Also they have computer software for retrieving genealogy information from

the Internet.

 

Chanute Public Library:

The Chanute Public Library holdings include: Microfilm of the Chanute newspapers, Index

of Obituaries from local papers, reference books on local history, Chanute City Directories,

Chanute High School Annuals, vertical and picture files of local people and events and

other miscellaneous helps.

Marriages of Neosho County 1886-1915

This book is an index to the Marriage Records from the first recorded in Neosho County up to August 1915. 

It lists the bride and groom, their ages, date of marriage and a reference to where the record is found. This

book has been recently reprinted and is now comb bound.  The cost for this book is $15 plus $5 for shipping

and handling.

 

Marriages of Neosho County 1915-1948

This book is an index to the Marriage Records from Nov. 1915 to Jan. 1948.  It lists the bride and groom,

their ages, where they were from, date of marriage plus where the marriage took place, and a reference

to where the record is found.  This book was published in 2002 and is soft cover and spiral bound.  The

cost for this book is $15 plus $5 for shipping and handling.

 

Neosho Co. Cemeteries  Volumn I

This book contains an index of the cemeteries by townships, maps and directions to the cemeteries as well

as the usual names, dates and inscriptions from the stones.  There are over 28,000 names listed.  The

information was obtained from the tombstones, newspaper clippings, plat maps, funeral home records,

queries, published works and asking individuals.  This book is a soft cover and comb bound.  It also has

been reprinted.  The cost for this book is $15 plus $5 for shipping and handling.

 

Help us update Volume I of Neosho Co. Cemeteries.  This volume will begin with the mid 1970s

to 2004.  We are in the process of updating our current cemeteries.  If you know of a cemetery or a burial

that should have been included in Volume I or a correction to volume I please e-mail me with the information

at barnhart@cableone.net .  Your help will be greatly appreciated.
