John J. Cain, 73, Abilene, died Tuesday at a Topeka hospital. He was born June 21, 1889, near Longford. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Henry Fooler, Abileneand Mrs. Everett Eaves, Woodlake, Calif.; four brothers, Albert, Abilene; Ben and Dewey, Salina; and Frank, Reading, Calif. Ida Stevenson Campbell, 95, died at her home in Idana after a long illness. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jan. 20, 1861, the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. S. M. Stevenson. The family came to Clay Center in 1872, her father homesteading a timber claim east of what is now the Hebron church. She is survived by one son, Milton of Idana, and two daughters, Mrs. George Curtis, Idana, and Mrs. Rube Miller, Clay Center. MRS. TINE DENNIS COLLINS, formerly of Clay Center, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. George Kaad, in Jamestown, Kansas. Mrs. Collins was born in Denmark , Sept. 26, 1870 and came to the United States when a girl. She married Joseph William Dennis in Clay Center on July 30, 1887; he died in 1915, and in 1924 she was united in marriage with Julius Collins of Clay Center. After his death, Mrs. Collins lived with her daughter, Mrs. Will Woods of Bemidji, Minnesota, and was visiting her sister, Mrs. Kaad, when illness struck. Funeral services were held at Jamestown on Tuesday of last year, with burial in that place. (Abstract CC Times, July 16, 1931)

daughter of Wilmer and Minnie (Siemers) Shivers; married Arthur Cowell on Oct. 21, 1938, at
Topeka; he preceded her in death on Dec. 5, 2006; also preceded in death by
two brothers; survived by one son, Rodney Cowell and wife Nancy
of Cottonwood, Ariz.; one brother, Forest Shivers of
Wakefield; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter; burial in Greenwood
Cemetery, Clay Center.

George H. Curtis, 73, a life-long resident of Clay County, died Saturday at his Idana home. He was born Dec. 13, 1883. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; two sons, George H. of Salina and Robert of Topeka; a daughter, Mrs. Jerris Letourneau, Salina; a brother, Walter of Clay Center, and two sisters, Charlotte of Morganville and Mrs. Pearl Condray of Manhattan. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Idana Presbyterian Church, with burial in the Idana Cemetery.
