Band of Hope Children's Temperance Club
May 15, 1886
Wakefield

The "Band of Hope" was an auxilliary of the W.C.T.U. (Women's Christian Temperance Union). It was
first started in Leeds, England in 1847 and encouraged working-class children to avoid alcohol. The large
English population around Wakefield certainly embraced this early version of "Just Say No" for children.
The Wakefield "Band of Hope" was organized and maintained by the efforts of Mrs. S. C. Mason.
