Clay County Societies Fraternal, Benevolent, Literary and Temperance Organizations
These organizations were an important part of life in small-town America in the late part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. They offered a chance to forge friendships and business alliances, forget their daily cares, and improve their communities. As transportation improved, many farm families joined the organizations in the towns, or started their own, such as home demonstration clubs.
