District No. 83 Prairie View Taken in part from The History of the School Districts of On November 6, 1886, school district number 83 was formed. The first school district meeting was held December 9, 1886, when a permanent organization was perfected and the first school district officers elected. the school was given the name of Prairie View owing to the beautiful view of the prairie land from the school's location. The first school building was a one room sod house with willow roof covered with dirt. Seats were chairs brought from home and the books used were whatever they could find at home. The second building was a one room frame building. More modern equipment for the times were installed, and a library was started. In 1940, due to the small number of pupils in the district, no school was being held. |
