Helen Russell Hoon and Cecil Ora. Hemphill, both of Sioux City, were married in Omaha, Nebraska, 27 Jan. 1916.
In 1916 Cecil O. Hemphill started work in the carpet department of Davidson's Drygoods Store. He worked there until 31 Dec. 1932.
Robert Cecil Hemphill was born to Helen and Cecil 7 June 1917 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa. Robert Was Christened in St. Bonifice Church, in Sioux City, in June 1917.

Bobby started kindergarten at the Evert School at West Third and Rebecca Street, in Sept 1921 at the age of five. He finished the grades at Evert in June 1929.
Helen, Cecil, and Bobby Hemphill left Sioux City by auto 18 July 1922 with Cecil's Aunt Mallie and Uncle Bill, for a trip through Yellowstone Park. They also visited Colorado Springs, Denver and Lincoln, Nebraska and returned to Sioux City, 6 Sept 1922.
Bobby began taking piano lessons, 9 Jan 1926 from Mrs. Edith Welsh Guist. Bobby played in his first recital at the Youngburg Studio 19 March 1926.
Helen began working in Davidson's as a casher during the lunch hour.
Bobby was nine years old 7 June 1926. His parents and grandparents gave him a bicycle. He also joined the Boy Scouts this year.

Bobby was eighth in the Tribune Contest (with 6700 votes) for a trip to Triboji Beach in May 1931. Bobby went to the first Tribune carrier camp and spent a week at Triboji, Lake Okoboji 15 June 1931 and returned 22 June 1931. Bobby made the first catch of the carrier trip. The fish weighted 4 3/4 pounds.
Bobby was elected President of his class at West Jr. High, 6 May 1932. He entered Central High School, 6 Sept 1932.
Cecil received a new Buick coupe for his birthday (26 Oct. 1933) from his mother Mae. He traded in his old Chandler on the new car.
Mrs. Mae Hemphill (Cecil's Mother) entered St. Vincent's Hospital at 624 James St., 14 April 1934 for a cancer operation. She died in the hospital at 9 O'clock 4 June 1934 aged 66. A funeral service was held at the Cathedral 6 June 1934, with interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A grave marker was placed in Nov. 1934. Mae Hemphill left her entire estate to Cecil. She was born 14 Nov. 1865.
Cecil's father, Ora Hemphill was operated on for cancer in Aug. 1934.
Cecil's car was hit by a train near Marcus, Iowa, 7 Sept 1934. His face was curt by flying glass. The car belonged to his father and was totally destroyed.
Robert Cecil Hemphill graduated from Central High School in Sioux City 6 June 1935 and turned 18, on the 7th June of that year.
Bobby had an accident with his dad's car (26 Sept. 1936), a policeman ran a red light and hit him.
