LYON COUNTY, KANSAS CEMETERIES

The D.A.R. read the cemeteries around 1940 and the Flint Hills Genealogical Society reread the cemeteries again in the 1980's. Current members of the Flint Hills Genealogical Society are now updating and rereading the cemeteries. Several of the head stones read by the D.A.R. are no longer standing, so information from both sources and the current information are being put together in ONE data base. As the cemeteries as completed, the basic information will be posted online for family researchers to use. The information will added to each cemetery page and an "UPDATE" icon will appear in front of the cemetery name on the list below.  We are also posting pictures of the stones of some of the cemeteries. Those cemeteries with pictures linked to the readings will have a "CAMERA" in back of them as well.

There is also another wonderful source that is often over looked when doing cemetery research, THE HISTORY OF THE CEMETERY. Since these histories contain a lot of Family names, and information about early settlers, they might be of help to those researching the Lyon County, Kansas area. Not all Lyon County Cemeteries have a history written about them, but many do. Just click on the cemetery name below, and it will take you the history that was written about it, location, and burial information. Remember some of these histories were written some time ago. Some notes have been added to help you when a landmark has changed. Many of the landmarks mentioned may not be there today, as some buildings (mostly school houses and country churches), and bridges have been torn down thru the years.
