Montgomery County Chronicle --as the title says, this paper contains news from all over the county; it has an online website, and offers free obituary archives back to 2008.


FUNERAL HOMES

Some funeral home websites have obituaries archives that go back several years:

David W. Barnes Funeral Home, Coffeyville; obituary archive from present back to May 2006.
Penwell-Gable Funeral Home, Coffeyville; obituary archive from present back to Jan. 2011.
Penwell-Gable Funeral Home, Independence; obituary archive from present back to Jan. 2011.


MUSEUMS

Caney Valley Historical Society Caney; musuem and genealogical research library.
Dalton Defenders Museum history and artifacts from the Dalton Raid, as well as other Coffeyville people of interest.
Independence Historical Museum and Art Center -- looks interesting, but difficult to tell from the website if they have any genealogical resources.


LIBRARIES

Cherryvale Public Library newspaper scrapbooks and Cherryvale area cemetery listings.
Coffeyville Public Library houses the research materials of the Montgomery County Genealogical Society.
Independence Public Library --marriage and cemetery records, school yearbooks.


PLACES OF INTEREST

William Inge Center for the Arts --Located at Independence Community College, the center houses memorabilia, original manuscripts and books of William Inge, Pulitzer and Academy Award-winning playwright. It also hosts a performing-arts festival each year.
Little House on the Prairie Museum location of the homesite of the Charles Ingalls' family, 1869-1871.
