As some of you may be aware, on July 6, 2006, Cheryl Hampton Erwin passed away at the Olathe Medical Center. She was a faithful worker and contributor to the Parker Community Historical Society. She is greatly missed by her family and fnends. She was our treasurer and membership officer and was primarily responsible for this newsletter.
Per her request, memorial funds were given to the PCHS. We appreciate receiving all the monies contributed. Any other contributions can be sent to the PCHS, Post Office Box 173, Parker, KS 66072. We would also encourage members who live around the Parker area to get involved. The museums are not just for Parker school alumni. Our museums are in the interest of the PARKER COMMUNITY. All help is appreciated. We need workers if we are going to continue to serve our community.
Annual membership dues for November 1, 2006, through October 31, 2007, are now due. What a bargain! Single membership is still $5 each and a lifetime membership is only $50. We currently have 193 life members and 13 annual members.
We continue to have work days on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 8:30. We welcome anyone willing to help. Right now we are cleaning and organizing the blacksmith shop. There will be no work days nor monthly meeting held in December.
The museums are open to visitors alumni weekend and during Parker Harvest Fest. We will also open by special request. Persons to contact regarding the museums are Marilyn Rhoades, 913-898-6891, Janice Stahl, 913-898-6662, or John Riggs, 913-898-2337.
We still have an indebtedness against the cost of renovating the blacksmith shop and there are other projects we are considering. These projects take participation as well as funds. Let us hear from you and what you can do.
And if you have read this far in this newsletter, you know the main theme is PLEASE and HELP! We know there are creative, enthusiastic members (workers?) out there and we're asking you to step forward and contribute however you can.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed this year to the Historical Society. We truly appreciate all donations of time, material, and funds. Come have fun with us.
