We work (whoever can) at the museums each month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to whenever. Our monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the new museum at 7:30 p.m. We would encourage anyone who can to join us and participate when possible.
If membership dues have not been paid for the fiscal year November 1, 2005, through October 31, 2006, they are due. Dues are $5 for single members and $50 each for lifetime memberships.
PCHS is planning for the Parker Rural High School Alumni banquet which is coming up soon. As you should know, the date has been changed to April 29 commencing at 6 p.m. The Museums will be open from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm to visitors. The school will open at 4 pm preceding the banquet. Please come visit and reminisce with family and friends. There are many items that "spark" recollections of days past.
The MUSEUMS may also be opened by special request by contacting John Riggs, President (913-898-2337), or Cheryl Erwin, Treasurer (913-898-6891).
We have recently completed the restoration project on the blacksmith shop and are looking forward to getting it available to museum visitors. Dismayingly, the overrun on the anticipated cost for the restoration was high and required a loan to complete the project. For this reason, we would encourage anyone who can to make a donation to the Historical Society so that we may continue to provide a place to capture the history of Parker and our roots.
We are also interested in replacing the sidewalk in front of the buildings. With these two major projects looming, we held a soup and chili supper in March and thank all who donated items and came out for the supper. We were pleased with the participation and appreciate all those who shared the evening with us.
Please continue to advise us of any change of address that occurs between newsletters. Getting corrected addresses from the post office is expensive and delays receipt of the mail. Continue to notify Cheryl (Hampton) Erwin at 913-898-6891 or Janice (Cady) Stahl at 913-898-6662 of address corrections and names and dates of deceased alumni and members.
Following is a list of deceased PRHS Alumni since the Spring Newsletter of 2005. Each one is
missed by families, friends, classmates, and fellow alumni. If you are aware of anyone we have
missed, please let us know.
