What's in A Name?
Thanks to Della Shafer for the name of our newsletter.
We truly are "Heritage Harvesters" when we keep our family's history.
Shafer believes our heritage is so important that she started the "Pioneers of Sumner County" project
for our sister society the Sumner County Historical Society. If your ancestor settled in Sumner County prior to
1900, you are eligible for a certificate suitable for framing.

Genealogical Society Formed
The first meeting of the SCGS was set for April
28th at the Wellington Public Library, and the response was exciting.
Sandy Allison, Director of Sumner County Economic Development, presided over the organizational meeting and presented
a program about her experiences in Rolla, Missouri searching for her ancestors, and publishing a county genealogical
book for Phelps County, Missouri.
Allison has documented her ancestors back to the 1100's, and has experience in developing genealogical societies
at both the state and county level in Missouri.
Sandy brought out that while some sources state that we have three generations of ancestor's genes that make up
who we are, other sources believe our genes come from as far back as six generations.
The society decided to meet on the second Monday of the month, and Sherri Theurer offered the use of Theurer Auction
and Realty on east 160 highway. The society discussed meeting in towns to become familiar with the history of Sumner
County, and to promote membership.
