Dickinson County Kansas Poor Farm
1885 ~ 1917
Transcribed By:
Mary Jane McIntire
Whenever there were obvious spelling errors, the spelling was corrected as indicated by bracketts. Some of the people who resided at the poor farm were not just "poor", they were also old, sick, and mentally ill. There were children who had no parents or gaurdians. Sometimes people just needed a "helping hand". Some residents died while living at the Poor Farm and a notation was usually made as to where they are buried. Residents came from varying nationalities, England, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, Mexico as well as those who were born in the United States.
