County was formed on 12/11/1801 from part of Green County,
Kentucky. It was named after John Adair, Commander of Kentucky
troops in the Battle of New Orleans and Governor of Kentucky.

Burton Ridge
This is an area located in the eastern region of Adair County,
Kentucky. Burton Ridge includes the communities of Beulah Chapel,
Christine. Vester, Purdy, and Ella. Burton Ridge has a very
strong and colorful history. Bearwallow Cemetery, located at
Christine is one of Burton Ridge most prominent landmarks. Arthur
Burton (1794-1855) was one of the first members of the Burton Family to
reside in the proximity of Burton Ridge. Arthur Burton was born
in Virginia and lived in Pulaski County, Kentucky; before residing in
Adair County, Kentucky. Arthur Burton died in Adair County and
many Residents of Burton Ridge are his descendants.
Neatsville
Northeastern area of Adair County, located near Green River,
between Burton Ridge and Pellyton, named for a pioneer Adair County
settler, Randolph Neat.
Pellyton
Pellyton is named for the Pelley families that settled there
when they came from North Carolina. James Pelley (1756-1820) came
with many sons and daughter to the area. Many of the residents of
the area descend from the Pelley family.
