Emancipation of George & C by John and Betsy Allen

 

Know all men by these presents that we John Allen and Betsy Allen for diverse causes and consideration unto us moving, do hereby emancipate and set at liberty George, Simon, Hester, Hannah, Jack and their increase reserving their service to us for and during the life of the undersigned Betsy Allen - As we clearly word it to be understood that at the death of the said Betsy Allen, said negroes & their increase are to be freed & not before & we hereby acknowledge & desire it shall be recorded irrevocable - given under our hand & seal this the 3rd day of Sept 1823 - We do hereby at the _____ of three years from this day set at liberty said negro man Scipio? where we have sold to B. Warfield for Peterson?, provided he serve said Warfield said _____ faithfully .. the day above . all of which is irrevocable and to be placed upon record in Harrison County.

Harrison County October Court 1823 Set: The manumission from James Allen and Betsy Allen to negro slaves George, Simon, Hester, Hannah, Jack and Scipio? was proved in open court by the oath of Boy Warfield and A. Moore Subscribing  witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.

Indenture William (3 yr. old slave) to Hellen Duncan by William Duncan

 

This Indenture made and entered into this twenty eighth day of November one thousand Eight hundred and Twenty eight Between William Duncan of the County of Harrison & state of Kentucky of the one part and Hellen Duncan of the County and state aforsaid of the other part (Witness) that the said William Duncan for and inconsideration of the sum one Dollar to me in hand paid the Recept whereof is hereby acknowledge have given granted and bargained and sold unto Hellen Duncan and her heirs (to wit) a certain negro Child named William Three years old a (slave for Life) and do forever warrant Defend the title of said negro Child against my others heirs Executors or administrators or any other person or persons in Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal This day and Date above Written
