Anderson County was formed from Franklin, Mercer and Washington Counties in 1827.
It was named after Richard Clough Anderson, Jr. (1788-1826), Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and nephew of George Rogers Clark. The Anderson county seat is Lawrenceburg.
